A resident at the “Temporary Emergency Housing Facility” reported troubling accusations in the treatment of residents by the The Salvation Army during the Items from the Audience segment of the council’s March 19th meeting.
Here is the man’s testimony in his own words:
The Salvation Army has a $2.6 million a year contract to manage the homeless shelter on behalf of the city. The contract was initiated in October 2023.
City staff had no response or answers for the issues raised by the man, other than to say they would investigate it.
Mayor Young pressed the issue stating that the full council has been kept out of the loop with the Homelessness Advisory Committee’s dealings, to which Councilman Bedolla stated that their agendas and minutes are made available to council each month.
Here’s what the resident at the homeless shelter had to say before council again during Items from the Audience on April 2nd:
Tracy taxpayers should be more than alarmed at what is allegedly happening at the homeless shelter which is costing millions of dollars to manage and operate.
It’s even more alarming that the council members assigned to the Homelessness Advisory Committee – Eleassia Davis and Mateo Bedolla – had nothing to say to the accusations.
Davis in particular has served the longest on the committee.
Her silence begs many questions.
It may be that Davis and Bedolla don’t have much to say given that the committee has canceled 8 of its 15 scheduled meetings dating back to January of last year.
Homelessness is Tracy’s biggest ongoing issue.
Alarms are being raised about treatment and conditions at the homeless shelter by the homeless themselves.
Eleassia Davis and Mateo Bedolla are failing the homeless and failing taxpayers.
