Why Won’t District Attorney Dan Arriola Question Veronica Vargas’ Business Dealings?
No matter how you feel about Dan Arriola, one cannot argue that he is an intelligent and principled individual. He went to UCLA and then to USC’s Gould School of Law. Arriola passed the California Bar and returned to Tracy with the intention of giving back to his community. He’s an elected city council member and is a Deputy District Attorney for San Joaquin County. And he’s done all this at the ripe age of 32.
That’s is why it’s perplexing and outright infuriating that this Officer of the Court is not demanding Veronica Vargas to disclose her business dealings as it relates to real estate development and land use issues and decisions that come before the city council?
In order to practice law in the State of California, every attorney is required to take an Oath. The entire Oath is as follows:
“I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of an attorney and counselor at law to the best of my knowledge and ability. As an officer of the court, I will strive to conduct myself at all times with dignity, courtesy, and integrity.”
If anyone should be demanding integrity on the Tracy City Council, it should be Dan Arriola. If anyone should be concerned with ethics and transparency on the Tracy City Council, it should be Dan Arriola. And if anyone should be concerned with issues of conflicts of interest on the Tracy City Council, it should be Dan Arriola. So why is he turning a blind eye to the dealings of Veronica Vargas?
If Arriola thinks that Vargas is an ally of his, then he suffers from short-term memory loss. Does anyone remember the hit piece that Vargas put out right before the 2018 council election?
The Tracy Press did an entire article about it that you can read here. Arriola was quoted in the story stating, “This was done purposely and with the intent to demean particular candidates including myself. The fact that there are outright lies on this piece is really disappointing.” Vargas’ camp also questioned Arriola’s values because he is a member of the LBGT community.
Nothing is too low for Vargas when it comes to getting her way and this mail piece is a reminder of her values.
And as we have seen in the years since the 2018 election, it is Vargas whose values should be questioned and examined and brought to light. The right person to expose and to question Vargas is District Attorney Dan Arriola. Will he uphold his sworn oath as an Officer of the Court and do it before it’s too late? Only time will tell.
